ChevronTexaco, Various Reserve Pit Closures and Well Plug & Abandonment

Since 2005, Chevron USA has selected Marsh Creek to provide reserve pit remediation and well P&A services on the North Slope of Alaska. Recently, Marsh Creek planned, permitted, and completed winter 2008 remediation activities at a reserve pit near Kaktovik. This project included barging 5,000 cubic yards of gravel to Barter Island during summer 2007 and then that following winter trucking the gravel 20 miles on an ice road constructed and maintained by Marsh Creek; mobilizing 10 pieces of heavy equipment, a 15-person camp, and 20,000 gallons of fuel by cat-train 140 miles across grounded ice; and constructing a gravel cap over the reserve pit to promote positive drainage after ice in the pits and gravel melts.

Weston Solutions, Drum Reconnaissance and Recovery

Marsh Creek was selected by Weston Solutions, Inc. to provide logistics field crews to perform a drum reconnaissance and recovery project at multiple BP Exploration Alaska (BPXA) drill sites and operating areas. The project was conducted in two phases: Phase I - to gather data for future drum recovery and Phase II - to recover the drums. During Phase I the drums were inventoried; contents were quantified and identified (visually and via sampling and analysis) to determine recycling, reuse, and disposal options; and the locations were recorded using a handheld GPS. Nearly 400 drums were identified for recovery and recycling.

During Phase II drum contents (petroleum oils and lubricants [POLs] and antifreeze) were transferred to new drums, the abandoned drums were cleaned (RCRA-empty), then the empty drums and removed contents (new drums) were sling loaded via helicopter from the remote tundra locations to the Prudhoe Bay road system. The drums were then deheaded, crushed, bulk loaded into four half-high shipping bins and transported to C&R Pipe in Fairbanks, Alaska for recycling. The POLs and antifreeze were transferred to BPXA for recycling.

Shaw Group, ANGDA Gas Spur Line Wetlands Studies

The Alaska Natural Gas Development Authority awarded a contract to Shaw Alaska for delineating wetlands along a proposed pipeline corridor between Delta Junction and Beluga, Alaska. The proposed pipeline would be a gas spur line off the main pipeline planned under the Alaska Gas Inducement Act. Marsh Creek was subcontracted by Shaw Alaska on this project to provide:
  • Logistics coordination and health and safety management
  • Field orientation and safety training
  • Helicopter support for field crews delineating wetlands on the Glennallen to Beluga section of the line
  • Road transportation, lodging, mobile camp, and camp resupply
  • Off-road vehicles for transportation to overland accessible portions of the pipeline route
  • Safety gear and communications equipment
